Week 2 Reading Reflection

In this week's assigned reading, the biggest surprise for me was realizing how much evolutionary development affected the entrepreneurial mindset. It was interesting to view entrepreneurship from the Integrated Perspective, according to Morris, Lewis, and Sexton (in the textbook citing). In the entrepreneurial process, the first process has various components in environmental opportunities, such as demographic change, the development of a new technology, or a modification to current applications. It was surprising to realize that the everyday changes that occur in this generation, sometimes going unnoticed, can provide opportunities for innovation and great entrepreneurship.

In this week's assigned reading, the part that was most confusing was the Dyanamic States Approach that was developed by researchers Jonathan Levie and Benyamin B. Lichenstein. The text was worded in a confusing way, as a dynamic state is "a network of relationships and systems that convert oppourtunity tension into value for a venture's customers, generating new resources that maintain the dynamic state." Although, this appears to talk about want and need, sometimes outside factors can become outliers that can go beyond the supposed dynamic state.

If I could ask two questions to the author, I would ask:
  • "Would you say that you have a strong entrepreneurial mindset? If so, why?"
    • I woud ask the author this question because I would want to figure out his motive for researching, analyzing, and collecting data into the creation of this textbook.
  • "Which theory would you agree with most in this chapter, regarding the entrepreneurial process?"
    • I would ask the author this question because there are a lot of theories covered in this chapter regarding the entrepreneurial process, some theories that overlap and some that conflict. I would be curious to know as to which one he seemed to identify the most with and which theory gave the best overall coverage of the entrepreneurial process.
I did not think there was anything the author was wrong about. He presented many definitions, data, and theories that were presented by other researchers throughout time. It was a good overall coverage and introduction into the entrepreneurial process.
